FOR MUM, GRANDMA AND THE WOMEN WHO RAISED US

Mother's Day

A Mother’s Day gift with gratitude at its centre.

Mother’s Day is all about recognition and relief. For many mums, daily life is a constant cycle of household mental load, work and family schedules. The best gift you can give is something that makes her feel genuinely seen, deeply appreciated and completely off the clock.

But before the practical ideas, remember the heart of the day. A mother wants nothing more than to be loved by her children. Whatever you choose, its real job is to say exactly that: that you noticed everything she has done, that you remember, and that you love her. A gift from her children carries a weight no other gift can match.

And nothing says it better than a rose, or says it longer than an Eternity Rose. A real, natural rose preserved in pure 24-karat gold, presented in its luxurious display case, is a beautiful thing for a son or daughter to give their mother: a golden rose for a golden mum. It takes its place on display in her home, and every time she passes it, it quietly tells her that her children love her. If gold is not her style, the same rose comes finished in silver, platinum or her favourite glazed colour.

For everything else the day should hold, the guide below will help.

Phase 1

Identifying her current needs

Assess her stressors. Look at what consumes her energy right now. Is she physically exhausted, low on free time, or missing a personal hobby?

Decode her true free-time wish. Pay attention to what she says she needs more of. Uninterrupted quiet time alone? A fun, distraction-free day with the whole family? Time to read, garden or pamper herself?

Check her self-care setup. Take stock of her daily routines. Are her favourite bath products running low? Has her beloved coffee mug chipped? Is her skincare routine due for an upgrade?

Phase 2

Choosing the right gift category

The sentimental keepsake, honouring what she means to her family.

  • The Eternity Rose: a genuine rose preserved in 24-karat gold, silver, platinum or her favourite glazed colour, in its display case (available from The Eternity Rose): a lasting reminder, in her home, that she is loved. If there are a few of you, present it from all the children together, with one card signed by everyone.
  • Custom jewellery featuring her children’s birthstones, initials or handwriting
  • A framed family portrait, a photo album of the year’s best moments, or a personalised piece such as a family-tree illustration or birth-flower print

The zero-effort pampering gift. Pure relaxation she does not have to plan.

  • A full day-spa voucher for a massage, facial or pedicure
  • Mulberry silk pyjamas, a luxurious plush robe, or cloud-like house slippers
  • A premium aromatherapy diffuser with quality essential oils, or luxury candles

The time-saving relief gift. Giving her back her hours.

  • A professional deep clean of the house
  • A subscription to a high-end meal kit or gourmet food delivery
  • A month of lawn or home maintenance, booked and fully managed by you

Phase 3

Pitfalls to avoid

Avoid functional household items. No kitchen appliances, vacuums or cleaning tools unless she has named a specific model. Mother’s Day is for her, not for the house.

Do not make her plan her own gift. If you give an experience, handle every detail yourself: bookings, transport, and the children and pets while she is gone.

Skip the supermarket flowers. A last-minute plastic-wrapped bouquet signals low effort. Order from a local florist in advance, choose a potted plant that lasts, or give her a rose that never needs water at all.

Phase 4

Flawless execution

Clear her schedule for the day. The gift starts the moment she wakes. Handle breakfast, clean the kitchen, wrangle the family, and let her sleep in.

Write a meaningful card. A handwritten message thanking her for specific things she does is often the most treasured part of the whole day.

Pair the gift with an action. Present the spa voucher alongside a genuinely quiet afternoon, or the new book with a fresh coffee in bed. The gesture proves the gift.

Since 1924

A tradition with an Australian heart

Australia’s Mother’s Day gift tradition began with one Sydney woman. In 1924, Janet Heyden began collecting presents for the aged mothers of Newington State Hospital, many of them widowed by the First World War and largely forgotten. That first year, around 850 women received a gift.

Her point has outlived her century: the gift matters far less than being remembered. Australia keeps the day on the second Sunday of May, when chrysanthemums are at their autumn best, which is how they became our traditional Mother’s Day flower, helped along by the happy coincidence of their name.

  • Second Sunday of May, every year
  • Chrysanthemums: the classic Australian choice
  • A rose that lasts: the keepsake alternative
  • The one rule: remember her in person, not just in the post

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Answers to the questions we hear most.

Does a meaningful gift have to be expensive?

No. The strongest gifts show that you noticed something specific: a shared memory, a favourite colour, a milestone or a wish for the future. Set the budget first, then choose the idea with the clearest personal meaning.

How far ahead should I plan?

For a date-specific occasion, allow time for choosing, personalising and delivering the gift. If the date is close, check the current delivery estimate at checkout before relying on a particular arrival day.

Should I include a message?

Yes. A short note in your own language usually carries more weight than polished generic wording. Name one quality you value, one memory you treasure and one thing you look forward to.

When is Mother’s Day in Australia?

The second Sunday of May. If you are sending a gift to Mum overseas, check her country first: the United States shares Australia’s date, while the United Kingdom celebrates Mothering Sunday in March or early April.

What if she says not to make a fuss?

Believe her about the fuss, not about the day. Scale down the production, never the attention: one flower, one honest letter and one unhurried visit or call is a complete Mother’s Day.
